💡 25 Essential Tips & Tricks

From your first hunt to endgame farming — everything we wish we knew earlier, organized by category.

🍖 Preparation

1.

Always eat before every hunt

Meals boost max HP, stamina, and grant food skills. Never skip — a full meal can be the difference between carting and surviving a one-shot.

2.

Stock up on essentials

Mega Potions, Antidotes, Flash Pods, Traps, and Whetstones/Ammo. Set up an item loadout so restocking is one click.

3.

Check the monster's weakness first

Bring the right elemental weapon. A weakness-matched element can boost damage 20-30% over neutral raw.

4.

Upgrade armor before weapons early on

Survivability > damage in Low Rank. Armor spheres are cheap early — use them.

5.

Learn to use the radial menu

Map healing, buffs, and traps to the radial menu. Digging through the item bar mid-fight gets you carted.

⚔️ Combat

6.

Sheathe and run when targeted

Most attacks can be outrun with your weapon sheathed. Sprint perpendicular to charges.

7.

Attack the head or weak spots

Hitzone values matter enormously. Hitting a 60+ hitzone vs a 20 hitzone triples your effective DPS.

8.

Use Flash Pods on flying monsters

Rathalos and other flyers drop instantly. But beware — tempered/enraged monsters build flash resistance.

9.

Don't greed for one more hit

The #1 cause of carts. Learn each monster's punish windows and disengage when the window closes.

10.

Wake sleeping monsters with your biggest hit

The first hit on a sleeping monster deals 2x damage. Place bombs, then hit them with a True Charged Slash or equivalent.

11.

Break parts for extra rewards

Part breaks drop shinies mid-fight and add reward slots. Partbreaker skill accelerates this.

12.

Capture instead of kill when possible

Capturing ends hunts ~2 minutes faster and often gives MORE rewards. Shock trap + 2 tranq bombs when the monster limps.

📈 Progression & Farming

13.

Investigate tracks everywhere

Scoutfly levels reveal monster locations and unlock investigations — the best source of rare materials.

14.

Farm investigations with gold rewards

Gold reward boxes have the highest gem/mantle drop rates. Stack them before farming rare drops.

15.

Use the Botanical Research Center

Passively farm honey, herbs, and might seeds. Set it before every hunt and forget.

16.

Meld useless decorations

Duplicate decos become melding fodder. Always check the melder after farming sessions.

17.

Don't skip optional quests

They unlock canteen ingredients, mantles, and equipment upgrades you'll want for endgame.

🌐 Multiplayer & Endgame

18.

Use SOS Flares liberally

Stuck on a wall? Fire an SOS. Monster HP scales but 4 hunters make most fights dramatically easier.

19.

Learn one support tool

Wide-Range + dust of life makes you invaluable in groups. Someone has to keep the team alive.

20.

Bring Lifepowder for team saves

Instant AoE heal can save teammates across the arena. Craft from Godbug + Blue Mushroom.

21.

Watch one speedrun per monster

You'll learn punish windows and positioning tricks that take dozens of hunts to discover naturally.

22.

Build for comfort first, damage second

Divine Blessing, Health Boost 3, and Earplugs make learning fights easier. Swap to damage skills once you know the fight.

23.

Tempered monsters drop streamstones

Endgame augment materials come from tempered investigations. Threat level 2-3 for weapon/armor augments.

24.

Element matters more at endgame

Raw carries Low/High Rank, but elemental builds out-DPS raw against most endgame monsters with proper matchups.

25.

Take breaks between failed attempts

Tilt is real. Three carts to the same move means it's time for tea, not another quest join.
